Fritz VanVolkenburgh is currently Chief of Staff for Brevard County Commission District 2. The district encompasses most or all of Rockledge, Cocoa, Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, and Patrick Space Force Base.
Fritz has worked with leadership at the federal, state, county and municipal levels to tackle policy and operational matters, and has handled hundreds of constituent issues within the county. He advises the Commissioner on agenda items across multiple boards and committees, and helps provide oversight of Brevard County’s $1.65 billion budget.
Fritz spent an early part of his career as a ferryboat captain, freightboat captain, and harbormaster. He has held a 100-ton Coast Guard Merchant Marine license since 1983.
His other relevant experience includes work as a finance manager (Brevard County), internal auditor (Brevard County Clerk of Court), assistant state attorney (18th Judicial Circuit in Brevard County), management consultant (Deloitte Consulting), and bank operations officer (Barnett Bank). He served as a Firefighter/EMT reservist with Brevard County from 2013-2019.
Fritz earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, as well as an MBA (MSIA) from Carnegie Mellon University. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2006.
He is a graduate of Brevard County’s Executive Leadership Institute (Class XIII).
